The Action Menu appears only when you click on the menu bar of an open window and begin to drag it. Finally, there's the customizable Task Group feature, which lets you assign groups of up to three apps to open automatically (two on the main screen, and three on the ScreenPad Plus). You also get a button to disable the keyboard, a necessary step before you rest your wrist on the keyboard to draw or write on the ScreenPad Plus. Here you'll find a brightness slider, a button that swaps everything on the main display onto the ScreenPad Plus panel (and vice versa), and an App Navigator button that shows all of the open and recently closed apps on the ScreenPad Plus (similar to Task View in Windows 10). The Launcher also includes shortcuts to key ScreenPad Plus settings in a column on the left-hand side. Here you'll find a customizable app drawer that will launch apps to run directly on the ScreenPad Plus, instead of the main display. The Launcher, accessed by tapping on the chevron icon on the left-hand side of the ScreenPad Plus, is the principal means of control. When you power on the ZenBook Pro Duo for the first time, the ScreenPad Plus offers some hands-on tutorials, which familiarize you with using the Launcher and the Action Menu.

It's got a bit of a learning curve, but it can be very useful for a number of tasks once you've got the hang of it. The ZenBook Pro Duo's main attraction-and the reason you'd put up with its bulk-is the ScreenPad Plus. Getting Into the Flow With ScreenPad Plus You'll see how the ZenBook Pro Duo stacks up against some of these competitors in the performance section of this review. If you're instead looking for a touch-screen workstation and don't need quite as much processing power, there are multiple configurations available that are much more portable, including the unique 2-in-1 detachable 15-inch Microsoft Surface Book 2, as well as the HP ZBook x2. If you're just looking for a competent creative workhorse, the Apple MacBook Pro offers similar specs, including an identical CPU, in a much smaller package. The bulk is one of only two noteworthy downsides to the ZenBook Pro Duo (more about the other in a moment). Compare that with a high-end gaming laptop like the Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model (0.7 by 14 by 9.25 inches, 4.6 pounds) or another professional content-creator laptop like the 15-inch Apple MacBook Pro (0.61 by 13.75 by 9.5 inches, 4 pounds). The sum of all of this equipment is that the ZenBook Pro Duo weighs 5.5 pounds and measures 0.94 by 14.1 by 9.7 inches (HWD). You can definitely feel the heat, although the fans are surprisingly quiet, never once reaching a level audible over normal office noise during my testing. Then, two 71-blade fans mounted on either edge of the laptop blow the hot air out through massive vents on the sides. Five heat pipes conduct hot air away from the CPU, the GPU, and the power-delivery hardware.

The laptop itself is also much larger and heavier than many 15.6-inch non-gaming laptops, since it must include room for multiple fans and other cooling equipment. (Opens in a new window) Read Our Razer Blade 15 Advanced Model (2019) Review The downside of the unorthodox positioning is that the ZenBook Pro Duo's keyboard and touchpad are more cramped than they otherwise would be on a 15-inch laptop. I find the angle similarly comfortable to what you'd feel from a standalone keyboard with a built in wrist rest, like the Logitech G613 Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. It's actually a very good position, ergonomically speaking, as long as you use the included wrist rest. To fit both screens into a single chassis, Asus moved the keyboard and touchpad to the bottom edge of the ZenBook Pro Duo's base, with the touch surface to the right of the key layout, in place of a number pad. Few other laptops you can actually buy offer this much screen real estate, though prototypes suggest that more are on the horizon, albeit likely a distant one. Together, these screens are an arresting sight to behold. It also has a 4K-width resolution, but it's shorter in the other dimension (3,840 by 1,110 pixels) and isn't an OLED screen. The ScreenPad Plus (the skinnier screen) itself is located forward of the keyboard and south of the main display. The ZenBook Pro Duo's main screen is a 4K OLED display with a native resolution of 3,840 by 2,160 pixels.
